I read the news today

I have been reading the news of late..... Roman Polanski is a free man is Switzerland..... A biography of Sarah Palin has been put on hold ( waiting for something to write about, I'm guessing)..... Chelsea Clinton is getting married.... Levi What-the-Stud wants to bang Bristol Palin again.... and Lindsay Lohan is going to jail.

Now.... I am not really sure who Lindsay Lohan IS.... other than a name that pops up in the news... or what passes for news.

So... I had to call the Kid and ask her.  She officially turned 21 and now officially knows everything.
"A 24 year old has been, " she told me.
"How can someone be a Has-Been at 24?"
"Dad... Has-Been-ness Happens!  Where have you been?"
"Well I have Been around.... and I have been here and there... but.."
"Dad.....  don't even worry about it.  She's like all that other stuff on the news that doesn't mean anything. Those Fox reality shows,.... stuff like that."

I guess I understood what she meant.  If it is REALLY important... it is probably not NEWS.  The Republicans were reluctant to extend unemployment.... but really want to EXTEND tax breaks for the rich.  That's not news.
The wars in The Middle East have cost the American taxpayers $1,021,412,240,000..... but are vitally necessary ...... but that is not news.
Since the beginning of the AIDS epidemic  an estimated 1,077,972 people have been diagnosed with AIDS in America.  But that is not news.
The unemployment rate in the USA is roughly 9.5 percent.
Roughly 2,432,000 barrels of oil  have been spilled in the Gulf of Mexico.
And here's a few 'recent' Headlines...............

Pigeon droppings halt Kings of Leon concert

Fungus wilts spirits of basil lovers, farmers

Boat made of plastic bottles arrives in Sydney

.... OK... I have had enough..... news... but one last bit...

Newsman Daniel Schorr has died.  Cronkite is dead. Huntley is dead.  Brinkley is dead.

Good night..... and good luck.

I Gotza Song.....

.... sorta.  Kinda.  But I can't sing worth a pickled egg!  Ask anyone who has ever showered with me, see, cause that is mostly where I sing.  Fact is, ya know, that I do such a Great job of Not singing well that the turned off the water that time when I was singing at the YMCA and told me that hence-forth & such I should just shower at home.  And there was no one else in the shower at the time!

And I don't even know whole songs all the way through.... just bits&snatches&bits&pieces... like that is gonna stop a body like me wit a heart & soul like mine iffen I really wanna sing! No Sirree Bob!

So I gotza song.... sing it with me!

Oh Beautiful
for Spacious skies....
For amber waves of grain....

For purple mountains majesty...
...above the fruited plain....

America, America.....
Come gather round people
wherever you roam

God shed his grace on thee

...and admit that the waters
around you have grown....
from sea to shining sea.....

...if your time to you is worth saving....
...and crown thy good with brotherhood

..for the loser now
will later to win...

...Oh, beautiful
for Patriot Dreams...

..Don't criticize
what you can't understand...

Come writers and critics
who prophesize with your pen

...hum hum hum hum

that sees beyond the years.

thine alabaster cities gleam....
undimmed by human tears...

hum hum hum hum &hummmmm

Come Senators and Congressmen
please heed the call....
..till paths be wrought
through wilds of thought...
Don't  stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall....
...till selfish gain
no longer stain
the banner of the free ....
...as the present now
will later be past......................

... and sometimes I just cry in the shower.

That'll be the Day!

JOIN NOW!! "Calender Reformation Project"....we want a month of Sundays!

Christmas in July!

Weekly Blue Moons!

Designated 'That'll be the day' weeks!

And forget about it Tuesdays!

Seriously.  Everyone complains about Monday.  And yet.... no one ever does anything about it!  I want to change that!  I want to change a lot of things, but unfortunately there are those items that seem to defy change.... Sarah Palin, Tuna Casserole, the Chicago Cubs, Conservatives.... I could go on.... and if it was late enough to have a beer I probably would, but I truly think the Calendar needs reform.

Start with.... special days... like

PARK(ing) Day 2010 is Friday, September 17th!

July 17, 2010 is Yellow Pig Day

July 29th is Rain Day ( in case of sunshine, it will be made up as a double header)

November 20 Survivors of Suicide Day

National Flossing Day National Flossing Day November 26th

National Underwear Day  August 5th

And to say nothing of......

National Waffle Day August 24
October 23  Mole Day
National Lazy Mom's Day is Sept. 2nd
Every 3rd Saturday in September is Big Whopper Liar's Day

I could go on.... and, like I said, given a later time and had it been ingestation of  amber colored alcoholic beverage day... I might.  But let's just start with eliminating Monday.

More innovations coming each 6th Saturday of the month!

OK. Two years....& older

It just dawned on me that I have been on and about the blogs for about four years now..... and have had The Eggroll Emporium  running for about two.  Wowsers & stuff!

Not that it really means anything.  Nope.  I didn't met any cool people from all over the place.  I didn't get all sorts of cool information and ideas.  I wasn't inspired by the sublime, the articulate, the passionate, the silly, the gut wrenching posts that I read.  I didn't cry.  I didn't learn that I was interconnected to folks that were even, and kind and felt like me.
  Yeah.  Right.

But I have been preoccupied.....  Mom is permanently in a nursing home.  She will be 89 and while still alert, needs more care than what can be given to her at her house.  She can not stand up anymore.  The arthritis in her shoulder and wrists do no allow her to help others assist her.  The nursing home is fine, but old.  The bed she has in her room must date from the 1950's; it is 'hand-crank' adjustable.  It just doesn't work for her and the current room is too small to accommodate the electric state of the art bed she has at home.  She is on a list for a new, nicer room when the addition is completed at the facility, this fall.  In the mean time she sleeps in her power assisted reclining chair that my brother bought her years ago.

It's not anyone's fault.  The facility is in a small community, is old, and they cannot keep up with the growing need for rooms, bed, staffing.
Mom knows what is going on.  It makes her sad, but she knows what is going on.  She has corrected the dietary staff who give her too much salt in her food.  She knows folks there and visits them. When possible she still gets in her 'power-chair' and makes it the four blocks to Mass at church.  It is what it is and she knows it.

Maybe..... when my time comes.... I will write the Emporium from a nursing home.  With a double bed to accommodate a nurse..... and a big fridge filled with salt free beer.
